Life Coach March Excerpt: The Parable of the Rock

Parable of the Rock “Not everyone who says to me, `Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’ “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.” And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. Scripture: Matthew 7:21-29 Jesus distinguishes between the righteous and the evil-doers by one word. Everyone who hears my word and DOES them will be like a wise man… Building a Strong Foundation Everyone who hears my word and does NOT do them will be like a foolish man… The point is so simple: Do you or don’t you? Will you or won’t you? Your life should be built with a strong foundation. Beginning this month, work on making your word your bond. Make sure that you have a reputation for truth and honesty. And when you say you’re going to help someone, do it. It’s that simple. If you cannot do something, don’t promise that you will. Not because Jesus says you should or shouldn’t, but because you want to build a reputation in your life for being the kind of person that is depended upon when things go wrong. You can become a leader & mentor for others. But you must start by building your life on a strong foundation of truth and honesty. You start today & go one step at a time. If you commit, you must act on it. At the end of your life, you alone will know that the Lord may condemn you in the most terrible way possible by saying to you, “I never knew you”. You can’t wait till tomorrow to think about doing“good deeds” in the Lord’s name. You must start today. This month, make a list of all the things you’ve been meaning  to do. Things that family & friends have asked you to do. This is the most important and sacred list that you have. Add to it things you know you can do to help those in need. This list is God’s list of “To Do” chores takes precedence in your life. Build your life on this foundation using the guidepost you create. You paved the way and you alone can build your foundation of strength and character. Begin today.
