6 Degrees Vignettes: Ways to stay cheerful while building the Great Pyramid & other stories

Ways to stay motivated while building the Pyramid at Giza…

One of my many nerdy habits includes obsessively watching things on the History Channel. I am particularly interested in news about ancient Egypt. And in one exciting moment in recent years,(for history buffs/nerds), the announcement came that there had been a discovery of a diary. One small papyrus page was found that revealed information about one of the building contractors who had moved boulders down the Nile River.

This project manager was a middle-manager named Merer. He was involved in helping to build the largest public building project of the ancient World. The boulders he helped to move would eventually form parts of the Pyramids at Giza This naturally made me begin thinking of what some of the missing diary entries might have looked like. Or perhaps, what the thought bubble was like appearing before a regular worker’s head when looking at this enormous building that was being built for one reason only. To house the Pharoah after he died. This would be the largest tomb in the world. What thoughts might an average Egyptian citizen have that centered around waste, fraud and abuse?!

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”

In our motivational group-The Growing Group-we find we are becoming a different and improved version of ourselves each day. And the difficulties and struggles that occur as we strive to become the best of all possible versions of ourselves does take courage. It means stepping outside your comfort zone and also realizing, even admitting to yourself, that person that you really are and are becoming…is someone you are striving to be but you are not quite there yet!

Some Random Questions

If you could be any age for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?

For some reason, the talk about colors to wear reminds me of the “Man in Black’ Johnny Cash. And I think of those fashion mavens who would always seem to wear matching and coordinated colors. Some were known for their unique fashion sense. But color should ‘pop’ for your personality.

I suppose I’d choose something like black because it’s basic- a shade or tone where you can accessorize and use jewelry and shoes and other things to express what you are feeling….but the outside color can only convey so much about the inner person!

I think the first one is really a trick question because: You need to choose the age you are at and then lock it in and just grow from there. You cannot go back and relive your life, if you were at a younger age. Just changing your age would not change your life! your change comes from within. So that is the essence of what we perceive to learn from our Growing Group sessions…

Another Random Question: What’s your Favorite Animal?

This seems to be a trick question too. Because, after all, aren’t we humans also identified in the category of mammals? So we are all animals, right!? What animal is the least favorite among us? All of them are God’s Creatures-if we believe. Our favorite animals are those that we love and surround ourselves with. Our pets are like our children, I suppose. Therefore, my answer is ALL of them are favorites! All that we love…

Just as the children’s song says that

Jesus loves the little children,

all the children of the world.

Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight,

Jesus loves the little children of the world.

I suppose the same goes for the animals. Someone loves the spiders and the snakes and reptiles. The mama tiger loves her baby tiger and the baby shark has a mother too. And so there is enough love in the animal kingdom to go around. All are God’s Creations and that should give us pause. We don’t know what the Big Picture really looks like in the long run. In the scope of God’s Creations for the Universe, there was a plan for all the creatures he created.

We can’t have an entire world that exists only with the Pink Poodles running around, now can we?!
